My wife, Sandy, and I bought a house in Spring Lake in 1999. Two years ago we considered selling it because it was hard to justify an investment of that size being used only two months out of the year. We really did not enjoy being there in the off-season.
Instead, we hired an architect and worked on a project to renovate and remodel the house. We settled on a design and began interviewing builders. Our criteria for choosing a builder had a number of items on it. Of course, price was one, but more importantly was time commitment. We did not want to lose a summer so we wanted to begin the project in November and be back in for Memorial Day. It was a very extensive renovation. Another important item for us was trust. We would be managing the project from Northern New Jersey. We knew that we would not be able to be there for weeks at a time and we had to trust email and phone updates.
We interviewed 5 builders for the project. We discussed price, process and how they would approach the project. We also asked for time completion commitments. We agreed on Wayne Dreyer. His price was fair, committed to the time constraints and showed us some of his work, which we really liked. What really made the decision for us very easy was Wayne himself. His honesty, integrity and commitment to every little detail made this project an absolute pleasure. How many people can say that about their building experiences?
The final project was delivered on time, on budget and, with some additional design ideas from Wayne, more spectacular than we ever could have hoped. People that visit us cannot believe that it is the same house. The craftsmanship is extraordinary. We now use the house year round. As a side benefit, we have come to consider Wayne a good friend.
We have all heard and experienced horror stories while building or renovating a home or part of a home. My wife and I have nothing but great things to say about this one.
Wayne Dreyer is like no other contractor we have ever worked with – ever. We have been through 3 large scale home remodeling jobs since 2000 and we were actually considering selling our shore home instead of remodeling it because of all the trauma that comes along with remodeling. As an added stress, we wouldn’t be able to see the construction easily since we were living up north. Then we met Wayne. From day one it was smooth sailing – we were almost nervous with how smoothly things went with Wayne in charge. He communicated daily, emailed pictures, overnighted samples, dealt with all the hassles and “old home surprises” that came along. He offered up multiple quality options for every decision, be it roof shingles, siding, windows, even interior paint color. To top it all off, our neighbors called just to tell us how neat and clean Wayne kept the construction site! We think, however, the best thing about Wayne is that he finishes the job quickly and completely – unlike other contractors we’ve had to chase to come back to finish the little things - Wayne finishes it all – perfectly.

Dear Wayne,
I wanted to take the time to let you know how happy my wife and I are with our entire building experience. We have done multiple building and remodeling projects on 4 homes, and have never had an experience like the one with had with Dreyer Custom homes. You continually exceeded our expectations, which as you know was not easy to do. After getting a late start in September ’08, everyone told me that we would never get a 4 story, 4000 + SF custom home completed by the summer. They were all wrong; the house was completed a week before Memorial Day, all while staying in our budget!
If anyone ever has a question about whether they want to build, or about what their experience with Dreyer Custom Homes will be like, please feel free to have them call me.
Thanks Again!
Frank & Lisa of Sea Girt, NJ
Three years ago my wife and I moved our 3 children and dog to Sea Girt. We chose this house because of its incredible yard, landscaping, natural stone pool, waterfall, hot tub, Southern Magnolias & privacy. We pictured days on the beach and private afternoons in our backyard sanctuary.
The house had been empty for a year, was sold “as is” and needed a lot of work. A number of contractors considered our house a knock-down, but we thought that since the footprint was 30% larger than zoning now allows that it would be worth the effort.
Having renovated 2 previous houses I consider myself to have a decent sense of things. Additionally, we spent a year tweaking architects drawings, interviewing half dozen contractors and reviewing their quotes. We selected Wayne and started demolition.
We also knew that, no matter how many architects, kitchen planners, and contractors you speak to there will still be surprises once demolition starts.
We found insufficient/sagging load bearing walls and long open spans supported by a single lonely & stressed out 1 X 6. We could see that ceilings were sagging & that doors & windows on the 2nd floor didn’t work but to see 24 ft spans supported by beams cut through to support central air vents was a shocker. We even found the 2nd floor load bearing walks to be 18in. off-center & pressuring the same beams that were cut by the air-conditioning vents. Seeing it, we weren’t sure what was actually holding the master bedroom and roof up. Entire sections of the house ended up being supported by building jacks, walls & ceiling were replaced, etc, etc… Let me just say this entire house was rebuilt.
Wayne tackled these considerable challenges on time and on-budget. He and his contractors were exceptionally adept at solving problems – without delay!
Completing this project with an inexperienced builder would not have been possible. Each “gotcha” may have delayed other builders days/weeks as they tackled each hurdle. They say that a builder and the customer develop a “love-hate” relationship. We never experienced the “hate” part despite tackling a series of challenges and now consider Wayne to be a good friend.
To say that I’m satisfied with Wayne and the job he performed would be an understatement. We love our house and got exactly what we wanted. If you’re considering Dreyer Custom Homes we’d be glad to show you our beautiful home and share some of the stories that we now look back on and chuckle about.
